SLU-Madrid Launches 23rd Major: B.S. in Exercise Science with Wellness Concentration
Starting in September 2026, students will be able to enroll in Saint Louis University-Madrid's new Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a Wellness Concentration, expanding SLU-Madrid's offerings in health and STEM.
Designed for globally minded students passionate about wellness and quality of life, the four-year program combines a rigorous, science-based curriculum with hands-on learning, small class sizes and access to modern laboratory and fitness facilities.
Rooted in SLU's Jesuit mission of educating the whole person, the degree integrates anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and behavioral health while emphasizing community engagement and interprofessional collaboration to prepare graduates for careers promoting lifelong wellness and preventive care.
"Launching this program marks an important step in strengthening SLU-Madrid's academic portfolio and global impact," said program director Tania de la Fuente, Ph.D. "It reflects our strong commitment to delivering high-quality, internationally focused health education and preparing students with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the demands of an evolving global workforce."
Students will earn a U.S.-accredited degree taught in English while gaining exposure to diverse cultures, health care systems and professional environments in one of Europe's most dynamic capitals. The program also reinforces transatlantic connections with SLU-St. Louis, creating opportunities for academic exchange, joint research and enriched experiential learning.
As the global wellness economy continues to grow ― driven by aging populations, increased health awareness, and a stronger emphasis on preventive care ― graduates will be well positioned for careers in health care, corporate wellness, rehabilitation, and human performance, as well as for advanced study in fields such as physical therapy, public health and exercise physiology.
By joining SLU-Madrid's supportive and internationally connected academic community, students will develop the expertise and global perspective needed to thrive in a high-impact profession dedicated to healthier individuals and stronger communities worldwide.
