Mathematics and Statistics
Education
- Ph.D. University of Illinois
- Bachelors degree, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand
Practice Areas
In teaching I use active learning methods extensively, and am interested in the effective
use of technology in learning. In recent years I have taught classes in the calculus
sequence, linear algebra classes, an abstract algebra class, and the core-level class
Math in the Real World.
Research Interests
I completed a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois under the direction of Derek J.S. Robinson. My research interests in group theory include rewritability, non-abelian tensor products, integrals of groups, that is, when is a group a derived subgroup (and generalizations), and applications of the classification theorem of finite simple groups.
